A medical marijuana letter of recommendation is issued by a licensed medical practitioner in the state of California for those with one or more chronic, persistent conditions that "substantially limits the ability of the person to conduct one or more major life activities," and/or "if not alleviated, may cause serious harm to the patient's safety or physical or mental health."
This letter is carried as proof that the patient can legally access dispensaries for cannabis and possess up to eight ounces at any one time. It also allows the patient the ability to legally cultivate (grow) 6 mature, 12 immature, or the amount necessary for their own medical use. There are nearly 300 ailments that can be treated with cannabis, so if you believe you’re in need of help, it is best to consult a physician. Please refer to our FAQ section for medical conditions that may qualify for the use of medical marijuana.
If you do not want to carry a letter of recommendation, you can also obtain a medical marijuana identification card.
ECMM Venice offers medical marijuana evaluations for those seeking relief from various medical conditions. Visit cdph.ca.gov for more information on medical marijuana identification cards.
